Exton British Academy offers specialist British literacy programmes for international students aged 5–11. Our expert UK teachers focus on the skills that underpin academic success: strong reading comprehension and clear, confident writing.
Students develop spelling, punctuation, and grammar while learning to write thoughtfully in both fiction and non-fiction forms. Just as importantly, we create a kind and welcoming learning environment where children feel supported and confident to participate.

Bachelor of Primary Education with Honours
I have 16 years of British Curriculum experience having taught both in UK schools and internationally, including Dulwich College, Shanghai and Doha College, Qatar. I have been Head of Year at both schools, leading multiple year groups of up to 200 children each year. I am an accomplished Grade 8 pianist and enjoy taking part in Ironman endurance triathlons.
Kalleigh Jarvis
Bachelor of Arts with Honours & PGCE in Primary Education
I have 13 years of British Curriculum experience and, like Martin, have taught both in the UK and internationally, including Dulwich College, Shanghai and Doha College. I have taught in every year group in Primary Education with a passion for literacy and I am currently a Deputy Headteacher at a leading British private school in Exeter. I am a qualified scuba diver and love hiking in the mountains.
All tutors are DBS-checked and hold recognised UK teaching qualifications.

Developing confident, accurate and expressive reading of English texts across a wide variety of genres and forms.

Understanding meaning within texts through questioning, discussion and explanation at every level.

Inference & Interpretation
Learning to read between the lines by identifying clues, deeper meaning and author intention.

Creative Writing
Crafting imaginative stories using strong vocabulary, descriptive techniques and structured storytelling.

Non-Fiction Writing
Developing clear and structured factual writing including reports, explanations and persuasive texts.

Spelling & Handwriting
Improving spelling accuracy with phonics skills, handwriting fluency and written presentation standards.
Students are placed into the most suitable group following a short consultation, ensuring every child feels both supported and challenged. Each programme runs in small groups of no more than four students, allowing our teachers to provide individual guidance and feedback. Individual one-to-one tuition is also available on request.
